Fair News website
FAIR is an online resource of news articles and reports about controlling and abusive groups and their victims. The website is gradually replacing a bi-monthly newsletter that is printed and mailed out, which republishes stories from the press. The charity needed to move to a digital, web-based format for economic reasons, and to keep as much of the process in-house as possible.

The website has a Content Management System (CMS) that enables volunteers to upload text to the website, which is formatted and accessed via a search facility. The CMS was built using a MySQL database and PHP, a powerful server-side scripting language which allows interaction between the user and the server. The archive of articles is stored as rich text on the database and is easily searchable by text or by date.

The site was first designed in visual form, keeping the design process flexible, until the client was satisfied that all their needs had been met. The site was built in two stages, as the client was keen to get the site live as soon as possible. The CMS was added later. The site was built as a test site, where the client was able to view it at any time and test the CMS.

The website is also hosted by me, and web stats tools are available to view the traffic that the site receives and which pages are being viewed.
